Predictions on the iPhone 5 are in and already there’s a ton of manufacturers hard at work on cases for the next generation device. A couple of new Chinese manufacturers are creating iPhone 5 cases, but these indicate that Apple’s new iPhone won’t have a 4-inch screen after all. Could we all have been wrong…
A rumored case mold leaked last week, and now AppleFanSite has obtained these images stating that a couple Chinese manufacturers are already producing cases.
We found it quite surprising that multiple manufactures would risk producing thousands of cases for a device in which all they have is a brief drawing with measurements.
The funny thing about the measurements is that a 4-inch screen wouldn’t even fit the design. The body would have no home button, earpiece, or FaceTime camera if Apple’s new iPhone employed a 4-inch screen with these measurements.
Cult of Mac’s Killian Bell noted the issue:
This drawing claims the new iPhone will be just 8.6mm taller than the current iPhone, but it’ll have to accommodate an new display that’s half an inch (1.27cm) taller. Admittedly I’ve only mocked this up roughly on a piece of paper, but according to my calculations, that doesn’t leave enough room for a FaceTime camera, earpiece, and home button either end of the display.
So no 4-inch screen, or are a couple manufacturers making stupid decisions? Why waste thousands of dollars making cases that won’t even fit? It all sounds completely silly to me. With these measurements, the new iPhone could have a larger screen, but it definitely wont be anywhere near 4-inches.
What do you think?
