Today I got to try out the Elan Passport Case for the iPad, and I have to say I really like it. First off, the Elan Passport can be used for all three generations of the iPad. (iPad 1, iPad 2, and the new iPad) The Elan Folio is a leather flip case that looks like a book. The interior of the case is made of micro suede. When you open up the case you have immediate access to the touchscreen of your iPad on the right. On the left side of the Elan Folio there a four wallet like compartments for your credit card, business card,I.D. card etc. as well as a sleeve to hold additional pieces of paper such as a receipt.
When a business card or credit card is placed in the in the slots of the case it always allows you a little room so that you can grab the card easily with your fingers, but still leaves you with the feeling that the cards a very safe and secure. (There was no feeling that the cards would fall out easily which was something I worried about initially) The sleeve for the paper rests underneath the credit card slots and is about 4 inches deep and can easily accommodate some miscellaneous papers.
When you slip your iPad into the Elan folio it is secured into place by four straps on each corner of the case. Once the device is locked into place it rests about a quarter inch from the outer edges of the case. The soft micro suede interior is a nice touch and protects your device from scratching. Once theĀ Elan Passport is closed it is secured by tab closure across the top which does not lock but does leave you with the feeling that your device is secure and that the case isn’t going to just fly open easily.
Overall I really like the Elan Passport Case. It’s simple, sleek, professional, and effective. Also it is made by Griffin which has an excellent reputation in the industry for making quality products. The Elan Passport is also available for purchase in 3 colors. (black, brown, or white) The Elan Passport usually retails for $49.99 but is on sale right now on Griffin’s website for $19.99.
