Earlier today Apple quietly added $124.99 and $174.99 price tiers as options to the app store. The new tiers are able to apply to both apps and in-app purchases. The announcement was made in an email sent out to iTunes Connect users earlier this morning. Apple also stated that developers will be making $87.50 at the $124.99 tier and $122.50 at the $174.99 tier, with Apple taking a 30 percent cut of the revenue.
Most apps on the app store are in between the $4.99 and free range with a few apps for the iPad exceeding the $10 mark. Most likely the new tiers were created to cater to the developers of professional apps, who create applications for relatively niche markets. The iPhone and the iPad are becoming more popular in professional circles which is why some developers might be interested in a wider range of flexibility and pricing.
