At the 2012 WWDC keynote, one of the new features announced was Eyes-Free. This new feature would provide voice activated commands for Siri in your vehicle allowing you to perform various tasks while driving. General Motors made an announcement today that they intend on becoming early adapters of this new Siri feature…
General Motors posted on their blog today that the Chevy Spark and Sonic will be the first to adapt Apple’s new Eyes-Free feature. The Spark and Sonic currently have a voice activation system implemented called MyLink.
The current system in these vehicles allows users to connect to various smartphones. Replacing or adding to MyLink with Siri integration will provide GM with a much better voice recognition system and a broader feature set.
There’s no official date when any of this will be implemented. And obviously it will be coming in future models unless they have a way to update the MyLink firmware in existing vehicles. We should learn more about General Motors plans over the next 12 months.
Does this new feature excite you?
