Don’t worry guys… We didn’t turn into a Blackberry fan site.. Just wanted to share some interesting news. Research in Motion the creator of The Blackberry announced over the weekend that their two co-founders Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have resigned from their co-CEO roles…
“There comes a time in the growth of every successful company when the founders recognize the need to pass the baton to new leadership,” said RIM co-founder and former co-CEO and co-board chair Mike Lazaridis.
The one-time major player in the smartphone industry has seen their share of the market drop down to a dismal 6%. RIM also announced that their new CEO is going to be the former COO Thorsten Heins. Thorsten Heins originally joined RIM in 2007 as the Senior VP of Hardware Engineering and then was later selected to be the COO of Product and Sales in August of last year.
Thorsten has taken over a company in shambles. Just last year RIM had to cut 10% of its payroll. It seems that Thorsten’s first order of business is going to be to purchase the QNX operating system. With Andriod and the iPhone’s strangle hold on the market place the new CEO of RIM is going to have his work cut out for him if he wants to return his company to the smartphone giant that it once was.
Meet Thorsten Heins…
