Apple’s Find My Friends app was released last fall after the announcement of the iPhone 4S. Find My Friends is an app that will use GPS and WiFi to triangulate your friends and family using iOS devices. Since it’s release it hasn’t gained much attention but iOS 6 could definitely revive this app…
Macworld points out an interestingly new feature found on Apple’s iOS 6 page:
And with iOS 6, you can get location-based alerts — like when your kids leave school or arrive home. Find My Friends can also notify others about your location, so you can stay connected or keep track of the ones you love.
Think about the possibilities here… Your spouse could be on a business trip and you want to know when they land safely. Find My Friends will send you a push notification when the plane reaches the airport.
Or if your a parent, Find My Friends could send you a notification when your kid gets home from school. It’s these simple things that will certainly take this app above and beyond its current functionality.
Right now the only way to check this out is with iOS 6 beta, but the app should be coming out in the fall with the release of iOS 6. And yes, it’s free. Be sure to check out Apple’s official iOS 6 page for more info!
Pretty cool eh?
