Looks like our iOS 6 compatibility guide needs some updating. Apple has apparently unrestricted a couple features for iPhone 3GS users in iOS 6 Beta 3. You’ll now have VIP mailbox and Shared Photo Streams when iOS 6 is released…
Honestly it didn’t make much sense for Apple to forbid the 3GS from having these nice little features. In fact, there’s almost no reason to upgrade to iOS 6 otherwise. Most all of the features we’re marked with incompatibility when the iOS 6 beta was released.
Apple’s official iOS 6 page used to state the following:
– Shared Photo Streams requires iOS 6 on iPhone 4 or later or iPad 2 or later, or a Mac computer with OS X Mountain Lion. An up-to-date browser is required for accessing shared photo streams on the web.
– VIP list and VIP and Flagged smart mailboxes will be available on iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later.
This has now been removed and iPhone 3GS users can now rejoice! To be quite honest with you, I’m surprised Apple is even supporting the iPhone 3GS at this point.
