If your iPhone can have a bumper case, why can’t your new iPad have one too? Well it seems that the folks over at Kensington agree with you and I, which is why they designed a bumper like case called Black Belt Protection Band for the iPad 2 and the New iPad. This case is pretty cool… it’s rubber, and wraps around your iPad giving you a secure grip while protecting your tablet at the same time.
Design
The BlackBelt is made with a thick treated rubber and wraps around the edges of your new iPad or iPad 2, and covers half an inch on the front and an inch on the back of your tablet. When you put the BlackBelt on your tablet you’ll immediately feel more comfortable and secure holding your iPad. The rubber feels smooth yet easy to grip at the same time. The case is easy to put on but it takes a bit of maneuvering to take it off without worrying about hurting your iPad.
The thick band also changes the look of your iPad from a svelte look to a reinforced hefty look. The BlackBelt measures 11.5 x 7.5 x .8 inches and weighs 7.8 ounces. What does the extra bulk and weight get you? Some serious structural protection that should be able to withstand your average falls and accidents. Also BlackBelt will help protect against scratches on flat surfaces as your iPad sits inside of the band and won’t touch a table at all.
Features
The Kensington BlackBelt Protection Band has cutouts for all buttons and ports except for the power button which is under the rubber cover. (It’s still very easy to press) Since the case is pretty thick the ports are tucked away deep inside the band. You shouldn’t have any trouble using the charging/syncing cable that comes with your iPad. But it’s unlikely your iPad will fit into any docking station while it is in the band. The cutout for the rear camera is perfectly centered so you should be able to take pictures and video with the case on.
All in all, the the Kensington BlackBelt Protection Band is a solid case. It will protect your iPad2 or new iPad from most everyday falls and accidents. Usually the case retails for $39.99 but you can pick it up on sale here today for $17.99.
