Recently Apple announced their latest version of OS X, Mountain Lion. This is a revamped iOS inspired full featured operating system for your Mac.
Many of the new featured in this operating system are directly inspired from iPad and iOS 5. Mountain Lion is almost a hybrid of iOS and OS X. It seems like the Lion release was just yesterday, but an OS X refresh is usually part of Apple’s yearly agenda, I guess it just seems so sudden. There’s no Surprise there though.
While there aren’t too many new features in this up-and-coming operating system, Mountain Lion’s iOS-Like implementation will give us some cool “favorites” we have on our iOS Device. Some of the new features in Mountain Lion incude:
- iCloud
- iMessage (Messages)
- Reminders
- Notes
- Notification Center
- Share Sheets
- Game Center
- AirPlay Mirroring
Obviously we have already seen iCloud implemented in Lion and in iOS 5 but Tim Cook has big plans for iCloud.
iCloud implementation is going to be a static factor in many upcoming releases from Apple. We also do have awesome features like Messages (iMessage for Mac), the iOS styled Reminders App, Twitter integration, and even a Notification center. I haven’t really seen the need for the notification center as of yet but I will be looking into it’s functionality as we a Developer Preview of Mountain for testing and development purposes. Stay tuned for a walk-through of Mountain Lion!
According to Apple we should see this release in the Summer at some point. I think it would be awesome if the iPad 3 was capable of running this hybrid OS, or something similar to it. What do you think?
