Reuters is now reportedly confirming a couple of rumors about the iPhone 5. “Confirm” is a strong word but apparently that’s the situation here…
The confirmation is that Apple will be moving away from the traditional 30-pin connector to a smaller, more cost effective 19-pin connection. Because of the new dock connector, Reuters notes that it will allow Apple to move the headphone jack to the bottom as well.
The iPhone 5, Apple’s next generation iPhone expected to go on sale around October, will come with a 19-pin connector port at the bottom instead of the proprietary 30-pin port “to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom”, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The funny thing is that we’ve seen this recently in different purported iPhone 5 photos. I don’t mind the bottom headphone jack, but the new dock connector is going to take some getting used to.
