A week ago iLounge came out with a concept based on “exact” specifications they recieved from an inside source. These specs pointed to a larger screen, an aluminum back, and a mini dock connector. We’ve heard all of these rumors in the past, but according to iMore’s Rene Ritchie the design isn’t even finalized…
According to iMore’s source the only major change that’s actually in the works is the mini dock connector…
Despite some rumors to the contrary, according to our sources Apple still hasn’t finalized the design of the next generation iPhone 5 (or whatever Apple ends up calling iPhone 5,1). No giant screen. No 16:9 aspect ratio. No metal back.
Currently, the new, smaller dock connector is being implemented, but no changes to screen size or aspect ratio have been decided on. And yes, it still has a Home button.
I know, the mini dock connector seems like the most unlikely rumor to actually materialize but it kinda makes sense. This is basically a reiteration of rumors throughout the last couple months, but iMore has touched on a mini dock connector once before. It’s also notable that iLounge’s source had the same mini dock connector detail. So that’s looking consistent.
If Apple has to cram more hardware into a device, they have to make room in order to keep it the same size. No big screen would mean there’s no extra space to implement an LTE chip, another hopefully confirmed fact amongst the rumors. If Apple didn’t increase the size of the iPhone to add a bigger screen, they’d be losing space to implement other hardware options.
It’s very common for Apple to test multiple prototypes which may be where all these other rumors originated from. It could also be a giant game of telephone…
Even if they iPhone does look exactly the same, I know for a fact it’s going to be “the best iPhone yet.”
