We hear a lot of rumors about the next generation iPhone, and not enough about the iPod Touch. Apple’s current 4thgeneration iPod Touch hasn’t been updated since 2010. Last October Apple released the iPod Touch in white, and so far that’s been the extent of upgrades in the last two years…
According to a report from Japanese blog Macotakara citing an “Asian source,” Apple’s next generation iPod Touch will sport an all new design with the same in-cell technology rumored to used in the iPhone 5. It will also have a 4-inch display with internal parts identical to the iPhone 4S, and a “buffed” aluminum back.
According to Asian source, new iPod touch (5th generation) will have 4 inch LCD which is the same size with coming iPhone 5.
CPU or other spec is considered to be same with iPhone 4S, and has different back-case design, which will be not mirror polished but buffed aluminum one. And it seems to be prepared black and white color model.
The report also indicates that there will be a small hole on the back of the iPod as seen above. Currently there’s no explanation as to what function this mystery hole will have but if the rumor is true, I’m sure Apple has something awesome planned.
According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is also planning to release this new iPod Touch alongside a redesigned iPod Nano in September.
Though all new design iPod touch and iPod nano will be launched, growth momentum will mainly come from the latter. The new iPod touch, like iPhone 5, uses in-cell panel, whose availability is limited in the initial stage. Shipments will therefore be hindered.
It would make a lot of sense for Apple to release the iPod Touch ahead of the new iPhone. Doing this would ensure the new iPhone isn’t overshadowed by any other new product in Apple’s pipeline.
