With the release of the new iPad, we can more than likely expect Apple’s next generation iPhone to be dubbed “the new iPhone” and be released at some point later this year. If Apple follows their recent predictable patterns, we should see something later this fall.
Though, I’m not too sure about that time-frame now. Apple’s own Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of world-wide marketing, told The Wall Street Journal, “we don’t want to be predictable” while being questioned on dropping the numeric-naming of third generation iPad. So if we’re adding predictability into the equation, we may want to toy with the idea of Apple becoming “unpredictable” for product releases as well.
But all theories aside, what could this mysterious and new iPhone consist of?
According to Rene Ritchie of iMore, there’s not a huge overhaul but a few awesome changes, and one that may mean big changes for manufactures.
It’s no surprise that the iPhone is probably, by far, one of the best accessorized phones out there. With cases, docks, skins, and even peripherals to enhance your daily life and tasks at hand. iMore says the new iPhone will retain the same size screen. While this is all speculation, it’s important to note they do have some good sources. So anyone counting on a Galaxy Note sized, index card of a phone can stop the wishful thinking now.
It’s also noted that the new iPhone will include the all amazing 4G LTE. Now for me, this is no shocker. Apple just released the new iPad with 4G LTE capability. Combine that with their revolutionary battery technology implemented in the third generation iPad, and the doors opportunistically open for a power-friendly 4G iPhone.
One “shocker” of a change is the possibility of Apple overhauling the traditional 30-pin connector. If Apple changes this, thousands of manufacturers will have to revamp their “dock” and accessory designs. I have tons of little accessories for my 30-pin compatible iPhone 4S, and I’d hate to see all those go to waste once I upgrade to this “new iPhone”. But things change, and I suppose I’ll deal with that rumor if it materializes.
I imagine with the release of the “new iPhone” we’ll get a RAM bump, a processor upgrade, maybe a new camera, and in summary the possible specs below:
- Similar if not same sized screen (currently 3.5-inch but not set in stone)
- 4G LTE radio
- New “micro dock” connector
- Fall/October 2012 release
So keep your eyes locked in here, and your ears open. I’m sure we’ll have many rumors flowing through the mill on the new iPhone or “iPhone 5”. But I highly doubt their going to call it the iPhone 5 considering they just changed their naming schematic with the release of the new iPad.
What features would you like to see on the new iPhone? hmm maybe I’ll make a poll for that…
In case you hadn’t heard, we’re giving away a new iPad! Yup a third generation iPad can be yours, completely FREE.
