Today TiVo Inc. announced the availability of TiVo Stream to TiVo Premiere or Premiere Q customers. This new upcoming service will allow users to stream content to “alternative screens” (iPad / iPhone) according to the press release…
TiVo Stream will be also be “the first product to enable streaming or download of shows simultaneously to multiple portable devices without interrupting what’s playing on the television”…
Too good to be true right? Not exactly, though there will be limitations and you would expect. Not all content will be available for streaming. Furthermore, content owners will have the ability to restrict streaming if they choose.
TiVo Stream delivers content to a customer’s tablet or mobile device, creating a cohesive viewing experience no matter how they choose to watch their programs. Both products are optimized for operator distribution, including automated provisioning and activation, and the low-capital costs that operators demand.
TiVo will also be releasing a new IP set-top box which will extend the viewing experience to other secondary televisions. This will allow viewing of Live or Recorded content on another TV. It’d be awesome to see some iCloud integration somehow…
This more than likely mean we’ll see iOS apps being released soon. The new set-top box and service is expected to roll out in “the coming months” according to TiVo Inc. Being able to watch TV anywhere on my iPad based on what I recorded would be great. I just hope the whole idea is executed properly.
