Apple Reminds Us iWork.com Closes On July 31st

Over the weekend MobileMe shut down as expected. Since then beta users for iWork.com have been getting emails once again reminding them that the service will discontinue on July 31st, 2012…

If you’re an iWork.com beta user you should probably jump the gun and get your information soon. This month will be the last for iWork.com, and it will take your documents with it if you forget to save them. iWork.com initially launched its beta in January 2009 as a way to collaborate on documents and projects.

Since iOS 5 and iCloud, Apple feels there is no longer a need for the website and encourages you to explore more options with the popular iCloud service. This will allow you to sync some of your file and documents across different devices.

Dear iWork.com user,

Remember, as of July 31, 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web.

We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before July 31, 2012, and download all your documents to your computer. For detailed instructions on how to save a copy of your documents on your computer, read this support article at Apple.com.

Moving forward, you can use iCloud to store your documents and make them available across your computer and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Learn more about iCloud.

Sincerely,
The iWork team

iCloud isn’t spot on with features like iWork.com was/is, but Apple is continuously expanding the functionality for iCloud. We’ve seen different leaks functionality similar to iWork.com recently on the iCloud website.

Hopefully Apple will open iCloud up more to suffice the needs of its iWork.com beta users and ex-MobileMe users.

Do you use iWork.com?
