Apple Speaks Out On EPEAT Withdrawal

Many were shocked and confused last week when Apple withdrew from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) registry for environmental assessment. Apple has recently issued a statement explaining their actions…

Looks like it wasn’t so bad after all! Apple actually DOES care about the environment. Many were concerned and confused after the EPEAT withdrawal happened. Apple has since issued a statement to The Loop concerning the matter.

“Apple takes a comprehensive approach to measuring our environmental impact and all of our products meet the strictest energy efficiency standards backed by the US government, Energy Star 5.2,” Apple representative Kristin Huguet, told The Loop. “We also lead the industry by reporting each product’s greenhouse gas emissions on our website, and Apple products are superior in other important environmental areas not measured by EPEAT, such as removal of toxic materials.”

Jim Dalrymple of The Loop also explains that even EPEAT is aware of some of their practices being outdated. Apple simply felt they were restricted by the assessment, but still has a stern commitment to keep things environmentally friendly.
