Apple News, iPhone

AT&T just announced that they sold a record 9.4 million smart phones in the final quarter of 2011, 7.6 million of which were iPhones. The fourth quarter of 2011 smashed 2010’s fourth quarter sales by nearly 60 percent, and also saw a 50 percent increase in sales from the third quater of 2011 to the fourth quarter of 2011.

The Oct. 14th, 2011 realease of the iPhone 4S undoubtedly helped give a boost to iPhone numbers after Apple announced sales of 37.04 million iPhones for first quarter of 2012 – their largest quarter in the history of the company.

AT&T has stated that most of the iPhones activated were iPhone 4S. While activations consist of even old iPhones that could have already been activated on new contracts, it appears to suggest that most of the iPhones distributed by Apple over the last quarter were iPhone 4S, making it substantially more impressive.

Verizon announced that they sold 4.2 million iPhones during the final quarter of 2011, and Sprint is expected to announce their 2011 Q4 sales totals on Feb. 8th of this year.
