Chinese Firefighters Rescue a Two-Year-Old From Well Using an iPhone

Yesterday we told you about an 8 year old using Find my iPhone to track down a burglar. Well another heroic iDevice story is out today! This one involving a little boy who was stuck in a well. Firefighters in China’s Yunnan Province saved a young boy from a 40-foot well using an iPhone camera. After several failed rescue attempts, due to the child slipping out of the rescue harness that was designed for adults, Firefighters took Apple‘s technology to another level.

They used the iPhone camera’s video capabilities by lowering it into the well so they could see the young boy’s position. Check out the video above!

The Telegraph reports that the rescue team was called in after natives near China’s Mengzi City heard the boy’s cry for help.

During the tricky rescue operation the young boy kept slipping out of rescue harnesses that were designed for adults.

But in a twist of ingenuity, the team lowered an Apple iPhone with a video camera allowing them to see the boy’s position. The close-up recordings are used to better position the ropes around his small body, allowing them to pull the distressed child to safety.

The young child was later taken to the hospital, but all appears to be well with the little guy.

Just one more reason you should get yourself an iPhone. 🙂
