Google Is Putting Finishing Touches On Maps App For iOS, But Will It Be Accepted?

When iOS 6 was announced, many were shocked that Apple was getting rid of Google Maps and replacing it with an in-house solution. Over the past couple of months, people have been frustrated with Apple’s lack of accuracy in iOS 6 Maps. Well, it looks like Google is getting ready to launch its own iOS maps app. Will Apple approve it?

The Wall Street Journal reports:

Google has distributed a test version of its new mapping app that will work on Apple’s iPhones and iPads to some individuals outside the company, said a person with direct knowledge of the matter. Google has been putting the finishing touches on the app before submitting it for approval to the Apple iTunes store, this person said, though it is unclear exactly when that will happen.

Personally, I haven’t experienced any issues with iOS 6 Maps, but I do understand that many have been frustrated with their experience. I just hope that Google does this right. We don’t need another Gmail-style app with limited functionality and horrible integration.

My question is, will Apple accept or approve the new Google Maps app? Do you think they will deny its App Store availability to avoid competition?
