iPad 3 Retina Display is CONFIRMED!

So we have all heard plenty of speculation as to what the next generation iPad specifications are, and now MacRumors has came out to put an end to the Retina Display Rumor. This is quite exciting as a display of this caliber is going to definitely change the game in the iPad universe. The display should look amazing and we can’t wait to get our hands on an iPad 3! MacRumors apparently got their hands on one of the iPad 3 displays floating around in China. If this is true, we can all sleep better now knowing one rumor has been confirmed. After MacRumors examined the display under a microscope they were able to verify that the pixels are exactly a quarter the size of those on the iPad 2.

MacRumors also had a couple things to say about this Retina Display.

“Since we only had a raw iPad 3 display with no method to power it, taking high quality photos of of the pixels was difficult. Still, even with the relatively poor lighting, you can easily make out the pixels on each display (made up of red, green and blue elements). We highlighted a cluster of 4 pixels (2×2) from the iPad 2 to compare it to the same area on the iPad 3. On the iPad 3, the same cluster was occupied by 16 pixels (4×4) — exactly twice the resolution in each direction.

Extrapolating out, the iPad 3 screen should carry a full resolution of 2048×1536, exactly twice the linear resolution of the iPad 1 and iPad 2 which is 1024×768.”

So that will hopefully be an end to one of the most speculated rumors on the iPad 3. We can’t wait to find out if it will include LTE or a Quad-Core processor which are a couple of the other rumors in question in regards to the iPad 3. Apple is expected to unveil the iPad 3 at a media event supposedly scheduled for March 7th, 2012.

Do you think Apple will step up the resolution on their next generation iPhone and iPods?
