The new Apple TV 3 just launched in Brazil but surprisingly is twice as expensive. The current model Apple TV runs $99 here in the U.S., but apparently in Brazil it costs 399 Reals which equates to about $211…
The reason behind the price increase is because of Brazil’s excessively high import tax.
The Next Web reported that Brazilian customers actually have the option to pay this on a 12 month installment plan with no extra fees. Hopefully that will ease some of the pain caused by the price jump.
Brazilians are loyal to Apple. They even named a street after Steve jobs. But taxes are taxes and I guess there’s nothing we can do about that.
Starting today, Brazilians can purchase the new Apple TV at authorized retailers or on the Apple Store online.
