New iPad 3 Rear Panel Photo Reveals Slightly Modified Design And New Camera

With the expected unveiling of the iPad 3 only a few weeks away, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that iPad 3 rumors flying around like hotcakes.  The latest rumor comes courtesy of NextMedia who claim to have received pictures of Apple’s third generation tablet.  At first glance the new shell looks identical to that of the iPad 2, but under closer observation there are some significant differences.

Probably the most exciting difference is the new camera lens, which as you can see in the picture above is considerably larger than that of the iPad 2.  The larger camera lens has given life back to the rumor that the new iPad will be sporting an 8 megapixel camera similar to the Sony camera featured in the iPhone 4S .  Going from a 1 Megapixel camera in the iPad 2 to an 8 Megapixel camera in the iPad 3 is quite a jump.  If this is true then Apple will have gone from photographic novice to serious player in one generation flat.

If you look even closer you will notice that the third generation iPad shell casing seems to taper off a little more gradually around the corners than it’s previous model.  The reason for the more gradual taper around the corners could be to make the new device slightly thicker so that it can accommodate the Retina Display that the new iPad was confirmed to have late last week.

The third generation iPad is expected to be unveiled on March 7th with a launch around a week later.  In addition to the retina display and new camera the device is also expected to include Apple’s new A5X dual-core processor.
