Pod2G Gets Untethered iOS 5.1 Jailbreak on His iPhone 4

We’ve been awaiting an iOS 5.1 jailbreak for quite some time now. Chronic Dev member Pod2G, has been working around the clock to hopefully push out a jailbreak before the release of iOS 6. He recently put up a poll on his blog to help decide whether or not they should actually release a jailbreak for iOS 5.1.

Well, it looks like it’s happening…

Majority of the votes on Pod2G’s poll were in favor of releasing the jailbreak. If the jailbreak is officially released, this means that those exploits used to obtain it will be patched in iOS 6 and the team will have to concoct another method for the upcoming iOS update. Eventually this will make it harder and harder to obtain exploits until none are available.

Recently, Pod2G just tweeted that he is actually running an untethered jailbreak on his iPhone 4. This is great news but it does not guarantee a jailbreak will be available for A5/A5X users. Either way this is exciting news for the jailbreak community.

So this may be insight to a future (sooner than later?) release of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1. I just hope they figure out a way to jailbreak my new iPad…

Anyone excited?
