If you’re thinking about buying a MacBook Air, I’d hold off for a little while. Apple’s next MacBook Air offering could be the best yet if these rumors are true. There may be a new MacBook added to the Retina family later this year.
According to Taiwanese publication Economic Daily (Google translation via Macotakara), Apple is preparing the launch of an 11 and 13-inch Retina MacBook Air.
9to5Mac reports:
Apple is apparently in the process of preparing suppliers for the launch of a Retina MacBook Air in Q3 2013. The report appears to claim that both 11- and 13-inch variants of the MacBook Air will launch with Retina displays in addition to an upgrade from Intel’s new Haswell platform. Apple supplier Quanta is expected to begin receiving shipments of the new components in the second quarter, according to Economic Daily.
There’s no word on pricing or specific availability though. I’m also curious to know what Apple will do with the existing MacBook Air line. Do they have plans to keep it around like the non-Retina MacBook Pro?
Ideally, I’d love to see them ditch the current Air models and replace them with Retina for the same price, but I doubt that being a possibility after seeing how everything played out with the previously released Retina MacBooks.
