[Rumor] iPad 3 Release Date set for March 16th?

So there are several theories going around involving the possible release date of the iPad 3 (or whatever it’s going to be called). Now while we won’t know the exact date for sure until March 7th, 2012 I do have my own insight and speculation to the situation. The first date that came to mind when I thought about the situation was March 16th.

I do have reasoning behind this theory as well…

  • The iPad 2 was announced at a Keynote on Wednesday March 2nd, 2011 and was released the following Friday on March 11th, 2011.
  • The iPhone 4S was announced on Tuesday October 4th, 2011 and was released the following Friday on October 14th, 2011.

So if we follow this pattern, that leaves on date in mind, March 16th, 2012. Furthermore, I think we may also see iOS 5.1 pushed out on March 9th. Though nowadays we can’t really rely on patterns with Apple as they have been breaking patterns lately for product releases and announcements. But I honestly don’t think it would be any later than March 23rd. Now lets add some sugar on top of this theory. MacRumors has recently posted a pretty interesting theory on why the new iPad will be released on the 16th or March this year. A “high profile” Apple store in Houston, Texas up to recently, was scheduled to open on March 17th, 2012. But now the word on the street is that this date was moved a day earlier to open on March 16th…

“The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Apple’s forthcoming Highland Village retail store will be opening Friday, March 16. According to the report’s source, the store was originally scheduled to open in January, but delays in the construction schedule pushed the opening back to Saturday, March 17. But just weeks ago, the opening was bumped up a day to March 16, sparking speculation that the company is seeking to have the store open for an iPad 3 launch on that day.”

If that isn’t enough information for you, there have been recent rumors of other Apple stores now scheduled to open that same day. Now don’t take all this information to heart, but it is highly possible the new iPad 3 will follow this same release schedule. I guess we’ll have to wait it out. Hopefully we’ll be able to pre order the new iPad the day of or after the announcement. Fingers Crossed…

Is anyone excited yet?
